Simon Francis joined Southend for an undisclosed fee from Sheffield United in 2006 and has gone on to firmly establish himself as a regular member of the defence, with over 100 appearances under his belt.
Having signed for the Blades for £200,000 from Bradford City, Francis failed to cement a first team place at Bramall Lane.
A loan move to Grimsby Town in 2005 was then followed up by another temporary spell at Tranmere.
Right-back Francis signed a new three-year contract in 2008.
